Final Days

Last One: a collaboration with Franciska Voeltz) from Phoebedance on Vimeo.

Some words

First I want to thank some people. These days could not have occurred without Erik Pukinskis whose offered equipment, filming, editing help, conversation, inspiration and friendship every single day.I also thank all Frankie Voeltz, the Roosties, my parents, Ona, and friends who have collaborated, responded or shared their experience with me.

I want to say many things about the past 2 weeks. About how some videos were never posted, about what I learned and didnt learn. About what is exciting to me.
About the fears and shame that are involved in publicizing unpolished work. About the pride and security that override that fear and shame. I want to share with you about some of the responses I received
- the ones from friends, a worried mother, my partner, my mentors, myself.
I would like to talk to you about what makes art worth viewing.
About how to capture humanity. About how it is that someone is stopped in their tracks and irrevocably changed (Anne Bogart)- I want to know if, as an artist I can provide those moments, those erotic and unexpected moments within the nature of the human condition. And maybe one day we will get to all of those things.
And maybe I will just keep making videos. Keep learning new things and sharing them, not through the language of words, but that of movement. The communication embodied in every cell is not at all poetry in motion, because poetry is based in words. Movement is complex, encompassing, and ultimately what we have- each cell moving as time passes and space changes (Deborah Hay), here/gone. I would like to invite being seen. Not just heard or read. But seen. And so here they are. Videos for you of my embodied culture and my genetics and my history.
